The travel data is collected and analysed by TU Dresden and by using the app TravelVu developed by Trivector. Data collections are carried out from the end of April to (at least) the end of June.

Compare to travel data from 2019

Apart from exploring how people change travel patterns during this period, data can also be compared to Dresden data from the end of 2019 also collected by the TravelVu app.

-“We gained great experiences in both using the app during 2019 and the Travelviewer analysis-dashboard currently being developed”, explains Stefan Hubrich from TU Dresden. “So we decided to build upon these achievements and conduct a second TravelVu-survey, enabling us to see changing trends in travel behaviour.”

In a broad-based campaign titled with ‘Dresden in Bewegung – Urban transport in changing times’, the city administration asks its inhabitants from Dresden and surroundings for support. By collecting data, they help planning urban transport and ensuring mobility in particular times such as the current COVID-19 crisis.

Will some changes remain?

Travel all over Europe was drastically reduced with massive corona restrictions. When the restrictions now slowly are lifted people will start travelling again. We all want to know if and how some of the changes will remain. Understanding how people are changing their travel behaviour under the drastic circumstances caused by the pandemic can help us with the transition towards a sustainable transportation system.
