The social pillar of sustainability is becoming more and more important in transport and urban planning in Sweden. Social sustainability is about equity, diversity, quality of life and social cohesion for different groups in society.

How we plan and build our environment and transport system impacts citizens’ ability to easily, safely and securely reach the places and activities they wish to. It is important to understand which groups are affected by different decisions regarding the built environment, and how to involve these groups in decision making processes.
